AN ACT PERMITTING REFERENCES TO CANDIDATES WHO ARE NOT OPPONENTS IN CAMPAIGN COMMUNICATIONS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapters 155 and 157 of the general statutes be amended to permit a candidate who is participating in the Citizens' Election Program to refer to another candidate who is not the opponent of such participating candidate in political communications on behalf of the participating candidate, provided (1) the reference to the other candidate is made for the sole purpose of promoting the success of the candidate making such communication, and (2) there is no consent, coordination or consultation between the candidate making such communication and the opponent of the candidate being referred to in such communication.

Statement of Purpose:

To permit a candidate who is participating in the Citizens' Election Program to reference candidates who are not the opponent of such candidate in campaign communications.
