AN ACT PROHIBITING GRANTS UNDER THE CITIZENS' ELECTION PROGRAM TO CANDIDATES WITHOUT ANY OPPONENT.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 157 of the general statutes be amended to (1) prohibit the candidate committee of any candidate for nomination or election who does not have an opponent from receiving a grant under the Citizens' Election Program, and (2) credit to the resources of the General Fund any such grant that would have been paid if such candidate had an opponent.

Statement of Purpose:

To prohibit the grant of funds under the Citizens' Election Program to unopposed candidates.
