AN ACT CONCERNING THE USE OF GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEMS BY SIXTEEN AND SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD DRIVERS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That title 14 of the general statutes be amended to modify the graduated licensing restrictions for sixteen and seventeen-year-old drivers by exempting the use of global positioning systems from the banned mobile electronic devices, provided hand-held uses such as programming, initiation of searches, data entry and navigation by visual means shall continue to be prohibited.
Statement of Purpose:
To increase the public safety of our youth by preventing "lost, youthful drivers" who are, for lack of experience, less proficient at navigating and dangerous when lost.
