AN ACT CONCERNING THE SAFE DISPOSAL OF UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AT PHARMACIES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 21a-12f of the general statutes be amended to require: (1) A secure locked box that is accessible to the public on a twenty-four-hour daily basis for the anonymous drop-off of unwanted pharmaceuticals at pharmacies that operate ten or more retail locations in this state, and (2) the transport of such pharmaceuticals to an appropriate facility for witnessed incineration. The provisions of this section shall not apply to schedule I controlled substances.

Statement of Purpose:

To protect public health by removing unwanted pharmaceuticals from the community.
