AN ACT CONCERNING THE ELIMINATION OR WAIVER OF THE REQUIREMENT THAT CERTAIN TEACHERS PASS A CERTAIN READING INSTRUCTION EXAMINATION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subsections (f) and (i) of section 10-145d of the general statutes be amended to (1) eliminate the requirement that any certified employee with an endorsement to teach comprehensive special education grades one to twelve, inclusive, or a remedial reading and remedial language arts endorsement be required to achieve a satisfactory score on the reading instruction examination approved by the State Board of Education on April 1, 2009, or (2) waive such requirement for such certified employees who were issued such endorsements on or before July 1, 2013.

Statement of Purpose:

To eliminate or waive the requirement that certain teachers be required to pass a certain reading instruction examination.
