AN ACT PROHIBITING HEALTH INSURERS AND OTHER ENTITIES FROM SETTING THE AMOUNT OF PAYMENTS TO HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS FOR NONCOVERED BENEFITS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That chapter 700c of the general statutes be amended to provide that no insurer, health care center, fraternal benefit society, hospital service corporation, medical service corporation or other entity delivering, issuing for delivery, renewing, amending or continuing certain health insurance policies and health benefit plans in this state shall include in any contract with a health care provider any provision that requires such health care provider to accept as payment an amount set by such insurer, center, society, corporation or entity for services or procedures provided to an insured or enrollee that are not covered benefits under such insured's or enrollee's policy or plan.

Statement of Purpose:

To prohibit insurance companies and other entities from setting the amount of any payment for services or procedures that are not covered benefits under certain health insurance policies or health benefit plans.
