AN ACT CONCERNING GOOD SAMARITAN PROTECTIONS FOR FIRST RESPONDERS AND ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS WHO RENDER EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE TO ANIMALS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. Section 52-557b of the general statutes is amended by adding subsection (i) as follows (Effective October 1, 2017):

(NEW) (i) A paid or volunteer firefighter, police officer or state, regional or municipal animal control officer or emergency medical service personnel who renders emergency medical assistance to any animal in need thereof, as determined by such firefighter, police officer, animal control officer or emergency medical service personnel, shall not be liable to the owner of such animal for civil damages for any injuries to such animal which result from acts or omissions by such person in rendering emergency medical assistance to such animal which may constitute ordinary negligence. The immunity provided in this subsection does not apply to acts or omissions constituting gross, wilful or wanton negligence.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
