AN ACT REQUIRING THE EUTHANIZATION OF ANY CAT OR DOG TO BE PERFORMED BY A LICENSED VETERINARIAN.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to require that any euthanization of a cat or dog be performed by a licensed veterinarian except: (1) Any cat or dog that is attacking another person or animal where a reasonable person would consider such attack to threaten the life of another person or animal or to cause serious physical injury to another person or animal, (2) the euthanization of any farm animal or livestock, (3) the euthanization of any cat or dog by any law enforcement officer in the course of his or her duties, or (4) the euthanization of any animal by the Connecticut Humane Society.

Statement of Purpose:

That the general statutes be amended to generally provide that when a cat or dog is euthanized that such euthanization be performed by a licensed veterinarian.
