AN ACT CONCERNING THE TRAINING AND AUTHORITY OF CERTAIN CONSTABLES APPOINTED FOR FISH AND GAME PROTECTION.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2012) Any special officers appointed as constables for fish and game protection pursuant to section 26-6a of the general statutes by any town in Hartford County having a population of more than forty-four thousand but less than fifty thousand as determined by the most recent decennial census shall be exempt from the provisions of section 7-294d of the general statutes, provided such constables successfully complete a basic police training course that is tailored to the duties to be performed by such officers and provided by a police officer of the police department of such town who is certified under the provisions of subsection (a) of section 7-294d of the general statutes. In order to carry a firearm in the course of their duties, such officers shall be certified by a firearms trainer of such police department and comply with the same requirements for periodic recertification that are applicable to regular sworn members of such department.
