AN ACT CONCERNING ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT AS A POLICE OFFICER.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. Section 7-294d of the 2012 supplement to the general statutes is amended by adding subsection (g) as follows (Effective October 1, 2012):

(NEW) (g) The council shall waive any requirement that, as a condition of appointment as a probationary candidate in a law enforcement unit, a person not have been convicted of a crime in another jurisdiction that would, if committed in this state, disqualify such person from appointment as a probationary candidate, if such person was granted a form of relief by such other jurisdiction that removed such conviction as a barrier to being employed as a police officer in such other jurisdiction and such person was thereafter employed as a police officer in such other jurisdiction.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:

Statement of Purpose:

To allow a person who has had a criminal conviction in another state removed as a barrier to employment as a police officer in that state, and who has served as a police officer in that state, to qualify as a candidate to be a police officer in this state.
