AN ACT ESTABLISHING A MUNICIPAL OPTION TO PROVIDE PROPERTY TAX RELIEF TO CERTAIN RESIDENTS WITH HOMES DAMAGED BY NATURAL DISASTERS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2018) Notwithstanding the provisions of section 12-64a of the general statutes, any municipality may, by vote of its legislative body or, in a municipality where the legislative body is a town meeting, by vote of the board of selectmen, establish a program to provide property tax relief for residents of such municipality who are unable to live in real property owned and occupied by such residents due to (1) damage to such property caused by a natural disaster, or (2) displacement from such real property caused by the declaration of a state of emergency under the provisions of state or federal law.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
