AN ACT INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGES THAT MAY BE CLAIMED IN A SMALL CLAIMS ACTION.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That: (1) Section 51-15 of the general statutes be amended to increase the amount of money damages that may be claimed in a small claims action from five thousand dollars to ten thousand dollars; and (2) section 52-259 of the general statutes be amended to provide that the entry fee for a small claims action exceeding five thousand dollars but not exceeding ten thousand dollars shall be one hundred fifty dollars.
Statement of Purpose:
To increase the money damages threshold in small claims actions and to establish a two-tiered entry fee for small claims actions with the amount of the entry fee being determined by the amount of damages claimed.
