AN ACT CONCERNING THE RESTORATION OF THE DEATH PENALTY IN THE CASE OF MURDER OF A POLICE OFFICER, CORRECTIONS OFFICER OR FIRST RESPONDER.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That chapter 952 of the general statutes be amended to restore the crime of capital felony, punishable by death, for any person convicted under the provisions of section 53a-54b of the general statutes for murder of a member of the Division of State Police within the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection or of any local police department, an employee of the Department of Correction, or a state or local first responder, while such member, employee or first responder was acting within the scope of his or her duties.
Statement of Purpose:
To restore the death penalty as a possible punishment in the case of murder of a police officer, correction officer or first responder.
