AN ACT PROVIDING COMPENSATION FOR HOSPITALS THAT PROVIDE FREE CARE TO UNINSURED PERSONS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That title 17b of the general statutes be amended to (1) pay hospitals that provide free care to indigent persons who do not have health-care coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, P.L. 111-148, or do not qualify for such coverage, and (2) require the Commissioner of Social Services to seek federal approval for matching funds for such payments.

Statement of Purpose:

To provide financial relief to hospitals that provide uncompensated care for persons who have not enrolled in or are not eligible for coverage under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, P.L. 111-148.
