   Relative to National Preparedness Month.

             HOUSE OR SENATE RESOLUTIONS DO NOT CONTAIN A DIGEST



   WHEREAS, A terrorist attack, natural disaster, or other emergency
could strike any part of the United States at any time; and
   WHEREAS, Natural and manmade emergencies disrupt hundreds of
thousands of lives each year, often resulting in death and causing
serious injuries and billions of dollars in property damage; and
   WHEREAS, Federal, state, and local officials, as well as private
and nonprofit organizations, are working to  mitigate
against,   mitigate,  prevent, and respond to all
types of emergencies, and the people of California can help promote
the overall emergency preparedness of the nation by preparing for
these emergencies; and
   WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in
the United States Department of Homeland Security, National
Preparedness Month provides an opportunity to highlight the
importance of public emergency preparedness and to encourage people
in communities throughout the country to take steps to be better
prepared for emergencies at home, work, and school; and 
   WHEREAS, National Preparedness Month provides an opportunity to
recognize the Governor's Office of Emergency Services and commend its
leadership and service to the public in emergency preparedness; and

   WHEREAS, By taking  such  steps  such 
as assembling emergency supply kits, creating family emergency plans,
staying informed about possible emergencies, and obtaining
reasonable levels of insurance, the people of California and the
nation can be better prepared when disaster strikes; and
   WHEREAS, During the twelfth annual National Preparedness Month in
September 2015, activities promoting emergency preparedness will be
offered in communities across the country; now, therefore, be it
   Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That the Senate
recognizes September 2015 as National Preparedness Month, and
commends the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the more than
3,000 national, regional,  state,  and local public and
private organizations who join in the countrywide effort to raise
awareness of the importance of emergency preparedness; and be it
further
   Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this
resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
