An act relating to domestic violence.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
SB 273, as introduced, Corbett. Domestic violence.
Existing law requires the Maternal and Child Health Branch of the
State Department of Public Health to administer a comprehensive
shelter-based service grant program to battered women's shelters.
This bill would declare the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation that would address issues raised in a specified decision
by the appellate court and that would ensure that shelters providing
services to victims of domestic violence continue to receive
appropriate funding pursuant to provisions of the above-described
grant program.
Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact
legislation that would address the issues raised in Woods v. Horton
(2008) 167 Cal.App.4th 658 and ensure that shelters providing
services to victims of domestic violence continue to receive
appropriate funding pursuant to Section 124250 of the Health and
Safety Code.
