BILL NUMBER: SB 187 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Harman FEBRUARY 7, 2011 An act to amend Section 145 of the Family Code, relating to family law. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 187, as introduced, Harman. Family law. Existing provisions governing family law define "state" to include, a state, the District of Columbia, or a commonwealth, a territory, or an insular possession subject to the jurisdiction of the United States. This bill would make a technical, nonsubstantive change to that definition. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 145 of the Family Code is amended to read: 145. "State" means a state of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a commonwealth, territory, or insular possession that is subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.
