An act to relating to public safety.

LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST

AB 1786, as introduced, Rodriguez. Public safety: vehicles.

Existing law authorizes the director of the Department of Motor Vehicles to adopt and enforce rules and regulations necessary to administer the provisions implemented by the department.

This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to govern the interaction between first responders and autonomous vehicles.

Bill Text

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:

SECTION 1.

 (a) It is the intent of the Legislature to ensure that autonomous vehicles do not pose a threat to traffic safety and interfere with the duties of first responders.

(b) It is the intent of the Legislature to enact subsequent legislation governing the interaction between first responders and autonomous vehicles.
