SENATE RESOLUTION 1003

 

 

 

A RESOLUTION

 

proclaiming march 2019 as athletic training month in arizona.

Whereas, quality health care is essential for individuals participating in or preparing for games, sports, recreational activities or physical fitness activities; and

Whereas, athletic trainers have a long history of providing quality health care for individuals involved in these activities; and

Whereas, in Arizona, athletic trainers are licensed by the state to perform specific health care functions, including preventing, recognizing, examining, evaluating, rehabilitating and managing athletic injuries, preventing, evaluating, monitoring and providing immediate care for athletic illnesses, administering athletic training programs, and providing education and counseling related to the practice of athletic training; and

Whereas, licensed athletic trainers are on the front lines for various health conditions that affect athletes of all ages and are often the first health care professional to render care in serious or life‑threatening medical emergencies, including cardiac and respiratory arrest, concussion, spinal cord injuries, heat illnesses and severe injuries to bones and joints; and

Whereas, in Arizona, licensed athletic trainers are the primary on‑site health care professionals for more than 40,000 high school student athletes and more than 100,000 other Arizona residents who are engaged in games, sports and recreational and physical fitness activities; and

Whereas, athletic training was recognized by the American Medical Association in 1990 as an allied health care profession; and

Whereas, the National Athletic Trainers' Association represents and supports more than 40,000 members of the athletic training profession; and

Whereas, the Arizona Athletic Trainers' Association represents and supports more than 700 Arizona members of the athletic training profession who are employed in professional sports, colleges and universities, high schools and junior high schools, Olympic and other elite amateur sports programs, youth and other community recreational sports programs, hospitals, clinics and physician offices; and

Whereas, leading organizations concerned with athletic training and sports health care have joined together to raise public awareness of the importance of the athletic training profession and to emphasize the importance of quality health care for those participating in or preparing for games, sports and recreational and physical fitness activities; and

Whereas, this joint effort will improve health care for all who participate in or prepare for games, sports and recreational and physical fitness activities and will increase public awareness of the vital role of certified athletic trainers as allied health professionals.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona:

That the Members of the Senate proclaim March 2019 as Athletic Training Month in Arizona and express support for the work of athletic trainers throughout this state.
