A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
recognizing Operation Welcome Home Arizona for its continuing efforts on behalf of the Arizona Wall Project and the welcome home veterans park.
(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)
Whereas, Operation Welcome Home Arizona was established in Gilbert, Arizona in 2010 with the purpose of honoring veterans and their families by sponsoring activities that express our support, pride and patriotism; and
Whereas, Operation Welcome Home Arizona was recently awarded a 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemorative Partnership from the United States Department of Defense; and
Whereas, to honor the commemorative partnership, Operation Welcome Home Arizona launched the Arizona Wall Project; and
Whereas, the Arizona Wall Project's mission is to create an Arizona landmark that reflects the great sacrifices that veterans and their families have made for this country by building the Welcome Home Veterans Park in Gilbert, Arizona; and
Whereas, visitors will be encouraged to explore the Welcome Home Veterans Park by walking along the "Walk of Time," a circular path around the park that will allow visitors to pass by exhibits that honor those who have served in this nation's Armed Forces from 1775 to the present day and encourage observers to pay their respects to these patriotic heroes; and
Whereas, the Welcome Home Veterans Park will feature a scaled version of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. that bears the names of the 58,307 men and women who were killed or declared missing in action during the Vietnam War; and
Whereas, by honoring the men and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam War, the Vietnam Wall will serve to reinforce the founding principle of the Vietnam Veterans of America that "never again will one generation of veterans abandon another"; and
Whereas, the Arizona Wall Project has received tremendous statewide support, including from United States Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake, all nine Congressional Representatives, Governor Doug Ducey and many local veterans organizations, businesses and nonprofit organizations; and
Whereas, over 60 volunteers are currently working to implement the Arizona Wall Project and make the Welcome Home Veterans Park a reality.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the Members of the Legislature recognize Operation Welcome Home Arizona for its continuing efforts on behalf of the Arizona Wall Project and the Welcome Home Veterans Park.
