A Concurrent RESOLUTION
recognizing the chicago cubs for their positive impact on major league baseball spring training, the cactus league and the state of arizona.
(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)
Whereas, the Chicago Cubs have been an integral part of the Cactus League and spring training in Arizona since 1952; and
Whereas, as a result of their rich history in our state, the Chicago Cubs have become an adopted treasure of Arizona; and
Whereas, the Chicago Cubs have drawn millions of baseball fans to spring training games during this time, both at their facilities and those of other Cactus League teams around Arizona, and have played in eight of the ten highest attendance Cactus League games in history; and
Whereas, on average the Chicago Cubs draw nearly twice as many spring training fans as any other Cactus League team, both at their stadium and those of all other teams, providing a significant, reliable economic benefit to the entire state; and
Whereas, as the most popular team in the Cactus League, the Cubs have a disproportionate economic and fiscal benefit to Arizona, nearly $53 million annually over and above any other spring training team; and
Whereas, the Chicago Cubs have an annual economic and fiscal impact to the state's economy of more than $80 million, which supports hotels, restaurants, retail stores and many other businesses; and
Whereas, the Chicago Cubs are a nationally and internationally known organization that brings tremendous recognition and value to Arizona; and
Whereas, the Chicago Cubs are indeed deserving of appreciation for their many years of sports entertainment and contributions to the Cactus League and the state of Arizona.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the Senate of the State of Arizona the House of Representatives concurring:
1. That the Members of the Legislature honor the Chicago Cubs for their many years of history in our state and their outstanding contributions to Arizona.
2. That the Members of the Legislature recognize the tremendous economic and cultural benefits the Chicago Cubs bring to the entire state of Arizona.
3. That the Members of the Legislature realize the importance of the effort to retain the Chicago Cubs as members of the Cactus League, both to the vitality and strength of the league and the Arizona tourism industry.
4. That the Secretary of State transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Chicago Cubs.
