AN ACT

 

amending title 16, chapter 4, article 9, Arizona Revised Statutes, by adding section 16-575; relating to the conduct of elections.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 16, chapter 4, article 9, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 16-575, to read:

START_STATUTE16-575. County precinct tabulation; verification

Notwithstanding any other law, for a county with a population of more than five hundred thousand persons, all ballots shall be tabulated at the polling place and verified by two persons who are not members of the same political party. At the central counting center, the ballots from that polling place shall be tabulated again and verified by two different persons who are not members of the same political party.  If the tallies do not match, the ballots shall be counted again by hand to obtain a final total.  This hand count shall be verified by two different persons who are not members of the same political party.
