AN ACT

 

amending title 11, chapter 3, article 1, arizona revised statutes, by adding section 11-425; relating to county employees.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Title 11, chapter 3, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 11-425, to read:

START_STATUTE11-425.  Employee identification; law enforcement; violation; classification; definition

A.  An employee of a county may not use or wear a badge that would lead a person to believe the employee is connected in any way with law enforcement unless the employee is an authorized officer of the law.

b.  a person who KNOWINGLY violates subsection a of this section is guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor.

c.  For the purposes of this section, "authorized officer of the law" means the county attorney, the county sheriff, any county constable and any person who is employed by the county attorney's office or county sheriff's office and who has been granted authority by the county attorney's office or county sheriff's office, as applicable, to use a badge.
