Appropriating monies to the department of education.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Appropriation; department of education; K-3 reading intervention

The sum of $40,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2016-2017 to the department of education for distribution to school districts and charter schools for K-3 reading intervention.  The department shall distribute the monies to school districts and charter schools based on the number of third grade students in each school district or charter school who receive a score of minimally proficient or partially proficient on the English language arts portion of the statewide assessment to measure academic standards.
