AN ACT

 

amending section 22‑102, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to justice court officers.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Section 22-102, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

START_STATUTE22-102.  Officers and term of office; eligibility; definitions

A.  The officers of justice precincts shall be a justice of the peace and a constable, who shall be elected by the qualified electors of the precinct at the general election for state and county officers for terms of four years each.

B.  A person is not eligible for the office of justice of the peace or constable unless the person has been a resident of the precinct for at least one year before the date that the person establishes an exploratory committee or a candidate campaign committee for that office or makes an expenditure of more than five hundred dollars for that office.

C.  For the purposes of this section:

1.  "Expenditure" has the same meaning prescribed in section 16‑901.

2.  "Resident" has the same meaning prescribed in section 16‑101.  END_STATUTE
