A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

 

proposing an amendment to the constitution of Arizona; amending article IV, Part 2, section 2, constitution of Arizona; amending article V, section 2, constitution of Arizona; amending article VI, section 22, Constitution of Arizona; relating to qualifications for certain state and county elected officials.

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:

1.  Article IV, part 2, section 2, Constitution of Arizona, is proposed to be amended as follows if approved by the voters and on proclamation of the Governor:

START_STATUTE2.  Qualifications of members of legislature

Section 2.  No person shall be a member of the Legislature unless he shall be a citizen of the United States at the time of his election, nor unless he shall be at least twenty-five years of age, and shall have been a resident of Arizona at least three years and of the county from which he is elected at least one year before his election. END_STATUTE

2.  Article V, section 2, Constitution of Arizona, is proposed to be amended as follows if approved by the voters and on proclamation of the Governor:

START_STATUTE2.  Eligibility to state offices

Section 2.  No person shall be eligible to any of the offices mentioned in section 1 of this article except a person of the age of not less than twenty-five years, who shall have been for ten years next preceding his election a citizen of the United States and for five years next preceding his election a citizen of Arizona. END_STATUTE

3.  Article VI, section 22, Constitution of Arizona, is proposed to be amended as follows if approved by the voters and on proclamation of the Governor:

START_STATUTE22.  Superior and other courts; qualifications of judges

Section 22.  Judges of the superior court, intermediate appellate courts or courts inferior to the superior court having jurisdiction in civil cases of one thousand dollars or more, exclusive of interest and costs, established by law under the provisions of section 1 of this article, shall be at least thirty years of age, of good moral character and admitted to the practice of law in and a resident of the state for five years next preceding their taking office. END_STATUTE

4.  The Secretary of State shall submit this proposition to the voters at the next general election as provided by article XXI, Constitution of Arizona.
