A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

proclaiming April 2014 as the Month of the Military Child.

(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)

Whereas, when citizens of Arizona are mobilized by the National Guard and military reserves to serve our country, the children left behind have newly acquired, unique needs for extra support and services; and

Whereas, the State of Arizona has become a partner in the Operation: Military Kids initiative, a United States Army collaborative effort with America's communities to support children and youth of National Guard and Reserve families impacted by deployment; and

Whereas, the presence of military families in communities throughout Arizona defines a need to provide statewide training to community agencies serving youth to best provide critical services to military youth; and

Whereas, April 2014 brings the opportunity for community partnerships between organizations educating the public on the impact of deployment, creating community support networks, delivering educational, recreational and social outreach programs and ensuring that military youth become part of ongoing programs offered in the communities where they live.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:

1.  That the Members of the Legislature proclaim April 2014 as the Month of the Military Child.

2.  That the Members of the Legislature support increased awareness about the plight of military children and urge all citizens to show their support for military children by wearing the color purple on April 15, 2014.
