A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
recognizing the history and efforts of the arizona rangers.

Whereas, with roots dating to the late 1800s and a long history of upholding the United States and Arizona Constitutions, the Arizona Rangers played a key role in establishing the State of Arizona; and
Whereas, the original Territorial Rangers helped tame the lawlessness of the Arizona Territory, which paved the way for Arizona to become the forty-eighth state in the nation; and
Whereas, formally approved by the Arizona Legislative Assembly in 1901, the Rangers were skilled horsemen, trackers and marksmen who organized to contend with the outlaws in the sparsely populated Arizona Territory; and
Whereas, the Rangers' intent was to rid Arizona of criminals and criminal gangs by acting as a state police force when local authorities were overtaxed; and
Whereas, although the Rangers disbanded in 1909, three of the original Rangers reestablished the auxiliary in 1957 as a community service organization; and
Whereas, officially established in state statute in 2002, the modern-day Arizona Rangers provide law enforcement assistance to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, security services for community and civic organizations and support for youth and youth organizations within Arizona; and
Whereas, today's Arizona Rangers, like those who preceded them, are dedicated, unselfish and honorable individuals who volunteer to serve this state and its citizens while preserving the tradition, honor, ethics and history of the early Arizona Rangers; and
Whereas, individuals who join the Arizona Rangers, an all-volunteer organization, receive no monetary compensation or reimbursement for their service. Rangers provide their own uniforms, duty gear, weapons and ammunition; and
Whereas, the history of the Arizona Rangers is one of integrity, pride and unequaled law enforcement service; and
Whereas, by nature humble, dedicated and trustworthy, the almost 500 well-trained Arizona Rangers are committed to public service; and
Whereas, the Arizona Rangers, past and present, have proven to be a valuable and important part of Arizona's historical heritage.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:
That the Members of the Legislature recognize the rich history of the Arizona Rangers and commend these volunteers for their unparalleled public service.
