(TEXT OF BILL BEGINS ON NEXT PAGE)

Whereas, the Fisher House Foundation is best known for providing military and veterans' families with no-cost housing while their loved ones receive medical treatment; and

Whereas, Fisher Houses are located at major military and Veterans Affairs medical centers and hospitals nationwide, close to the medical centers or hospitals they serve; and

Whereas, Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths.  Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room and an inviting living room; and

Whereas, the Fisher House Foundation ensures that families are never charged lodging fees.  Since its inception, the program has saved military and veterans' families an estimated $235 million in out-of-pocket costs for lodging and transportation and has provided more than 5.2 million nights of lodging; and

Whereas, the concept for the Fisher House Foundation was born in 1990 when Pauline Trost, wife of Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Carlisle Trost, informed Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher of the need for temporary lodging facilities for military families at major military medical centers; and

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher responded to this need by opening the first two Fisher Houses in 1991, one at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and the other at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.; and

Whereas, in 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher established the Fisher House Foundation with the goal of assisting many more military and veterans' families through the construction of additional Fisher Houses and the establishment of other assistance programs; and

Whereas, there are currently 64 Fisher Houses in operation that have served more than 220,000 families 1990; and

Whereas, 2015 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the inception of the Fisher Houses.

Therefore

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:

That the Members of the Legislature recognize the Fisher House Foundation on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the inception of the fisher Houses and commend the Fisher House Foundation for its service to our nation's military members and their families.
