A CONCURRENT memorial
urging the united states environmental protection agency to clean up and eradicate uranium and related air and water pollution in the state of arizona.

To the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Arizona Attorney General:
Your memorialist respectfully represents:
Whereas, uranium and related air and water pollution typically results from improperly reclaimed tailings and formerly abandoned uranium mines, many from Federal contracts during the mid 20th century, within the State of Arizona is detrimental to this state's economic health and the physical health of its citizens, particularly those citizens who reside on American Indian lands; and
Whereas, it is the express duty of the United States Environmental Protection Agency to ensure the timely remediation of and address such harmful pollution; and
Whereas, current, modern uranium mining practices typically do not cause these types of pollution or result in onsite tailings and long term stored materials.
Whereas, the United States and the Navajo Nation are addressing abandoned uranium mines through settlement agreements, federal investment and cleanup work.
Wherefore your memorialist, the House of Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring, prays:
1. That the United States Environmental Protection Agency take any and all, necessary, additional steps to implement the remediation and cleanup of uranium and related air and water pollution resulting from improperly reclaimed former and abandoned uranium mines within this state.
2. That the Attorney General of the State of Arizona review and consider any and all appropriate legal actions to compel remediation actions and all additional appropriate additional actions by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
3. That the Secretary of State of the State of Arizona transmit copies of this Memorial to the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the Attorney General of the State of Arizona and each Member of Congress from the State of Arizona.
