Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Title 1, chapter 8, article 1, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended by adding section 1-802, to read:

START_STATUTE1-802. Tribal land acknowledgement; limitation; definition

A. Each public school, public university, community college, state or local park or library or other state or local government building in this state, in consultation with Native American tribes, shall display a Native American tribal land acknowledgment plaque in a clearly visible location in a public area of the building that is readily accessible to the public.

B. This section does not grant any rights or privileges to any Native American tribe that is not federally recognized. The land acknowledgment process set forth in this section does not have any legal force or effect and is designed solely to pay respect to the indigenous people that occupied land in this state before settlement.

c. For the purposes of this section, land acknowledgment means a statement by which Native American tribes are properly recognized as traditional stewards of the land on which a public school, public university, community college, state or local park or library or other state or local government building is located.
