AN ACT

 

amending section 16-601, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to conduct of elections.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Section 16-601, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

START_STATUTE16-601.  Tally of vote

As soon as the polls are closed and the last ballot has been deposited in the ballot box, the election board or the tally board in the polling place shall immediately count the votes cast and shall secure the ballots for counting in the tabulating equipment at the counting center.  The count shall be public, in the presence of bystanders, and shall be continued without adjournment until completed and the result determined and declared.
