AN ACT

 

amending section 28-2414, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to special license plates.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Section 28-2414, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

START_STATUTE28-2414.  Veteran special plates

A.  The department shall issue veteran special plates to:

1.  A person who submits satisfactory proof to the department that the person is a veteran.

2.  The immediate family member of a person who has been issued a license plate pursuant to this section.

B.  The department shall issue veteran special plates for motorcycles if an outside source pays thirty‑two thousand dollars to the department by December 31, 2004 for the establishment of the veteran special plate for motorcycles.

C.  The veteran special plates shall contain:

1.  A red, white and blue design.

2.  An American flag in the center of the plate.

3.  The designation "veteran" at the bottom of the plate.

4.  If requested by the applicant:

(a)  The designation "disabled" immediately above "veteran" as prescribed in paragraph 3 of this subsection if the applicant provides a certificate from the United States department of veterans affairs stating that the applicant is a disabled veteran and the disability is a result of the veteran's military service.

(b)  On the right side of the plate the branch of military service in which the applicant served.

D.  Of the twenty‑five dollar fee required by section 28‑2402 for original veteran special plates and for renewal of veteran special plates, eight dollars is a special plate administration fee and seventeen dollars is a veteran plate annual donation.

E.  The department shall deposit, pursuant to sections 35‑146 and 35‑147, all special plate administration fees in the state highway fund established by section 28‑6991 and shall deposit the veteran plate annual donations in the veterans' donations fund established by section 41‑608.

F.  A request for special plates issued under this section may be combined with a request for a personalized special plate issued pursuant to section 28‑2406.  The department shall prescribe the form for the request. The initial combined request is subject to the fee required for veteran special plates and the fee required for the other special plate issued pursuant to section 28‑2406.  On renewal of the combined special plates, the fee is twenty‑five dollars and shall be divided and deposited as prescribed in subsections D and E of this section.
