FLOOR AMENDMENT EXPLANATION
The Begay Floor Amendment does the following:
1. Requires the DCS Director to:
a. Ensure DCS’s compliance with the Indian Child Welfare Act
b. Strengthen relationship’s with tribal child protection agencies or programs
2. The Community Advisory Committee is charged with providing a forum for collaboration among state, local, community, public and private stakeholders in child welfare programs and services that are administered by DCS.
a. The Begay Amendment adds tribal stakeholders to this list.
3. Adds one representative of a native American tribe or nation who is appointed by the President of the Senate to the Child Safety Oversight Committee.

"20. Ensure the department's compliance with the Indian child welfare act of 1978 (P.L. 95-608; 92 Stat. 3069; 25 United States Code sections 1901 through 1963).
21. Strengthen relationships with tribal child protection agencies or programs."

Page 210, between lines 8 and 9, insert:
"11. One representative of a Native American tribe or nation who is appointed by the president of the senate."
