SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 87
Commending the Mathews High School girls' volleyball team.
 
Agreed to by the Senate, February 12, 2015
 

WHEREAS, the Mathews High School girls' volleyball team won the Virginia High School League Group 1A state semifinal on November 18, 2014; and

WHEREAS, the Mathews High School Blue Devils had a strong finish to the regular season and beat West Point High School to win their conference; and

WHEREAS, in the first round of the regional playoffs, the Mathews High School Blue Devils defeated Cumberland County High School and upset the number one seeded Northumberland High School; they defeated West Point High School again to win the regional title; and

WHEREAS, after winning the semifinal match against Radford High School, the Mathews High School Blue Devils advanced to the state final against Auburn High School, where they received the sportsmanship award; and

WHEREAS, each member of the Mathews High School Blue Devils—Stacey Abernathy, Josey Bauby, Sophia Bandurco, Allison Foster, Brittany Mitchem, Keely Crittenden, Belle Massimino, Sabrina Barrick, Morgan Driskell, Madison South, Kai McCann, Hallie Duncan, Anne Stewart, Emily Sorey, and Mariah Robinson—contributed to the successful season; and

WHEREAS, the Mathews High School Blue Devils benefited from the exceptional leadership of Head Coach Pat Moughon and the assistant coaches and staff, including Melany Slaughter and Abigail Kramer; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Mathews High School girls' volleyball team hereby be commended on winning the 2014 Virginia High School League Group 1A state semifinal; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Pat Moughon and the Mathews High School girls' volleyball team as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's hard work and determination.
