SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 45
Commending the Radford High School football team.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, February 8, 2024

 

WHEREAS, the Radford High School football team won the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship on December 9, 2023, at Salem Stadium; and

WHEREAS, the Radford High School Bobcats defeated the Riverheads High School Gladiators of Staunton by a score of 39–21 to bring home the program's first state championship title in more than a half-century; and

WHEREAS, after starting the game by giving up a fumble and a touchdown, the Radford Bobcats regained their composure, mounting a 25–14 lead by the end of the first half and scoring twice more in the second half to secure the win; and

WHEREAS, the Radford Bobcats' victory was a total team effort, led by a standout performance from quarterback Landen Clark, who threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing for 99 yards and a touchdown; and

WHEREAS, the Radford Bobcats saw impressive and consistent play on both sides of the ball all season as the team marched confidently to a perfect 15–0 record; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Radford Bobcats is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Radford High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Radford High School football team hereby be commended for winning the 2023 Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michael Crist, coach of the Radford High School football team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's achievement.
