Commending the Community of Faith Food Pantry.

WHEREAS, the Community of Faith Food Pantry, a food pantry operated by the Community of Faith United Methodist Church in Herndon, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024; and

WHEREAS, the Community of Faith Food Pantry was founded in 1999 by a small group of dedicated citizens who were inspired to start a food pantry to address the needs of their community; and

WHEREAS, beginning with a church closet and serving 12 to 20 families each week, the Community of Faith Food Pantry has grown over the years into an endeavor that feeds upwards of 300 families each week and that fed nearly 50,000 people in 2024 alone; and

WHEREAS, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Community of Faith Food Pantry adapted its operations to continue serving the community both safely and effectively, helping many individuals and families sustain themselves through the unprecedented public health crisis; and

WHEREAS, at a time when many residents of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area are facing food insecurity, the services of the Community of Faith Food Pantry are more vital than ever; and

WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Community of Faith Food Pantry have been realized through generous financial gifts from individual donors and the loving support of its members and partners, including the Capital Area Food Bank and various local grocery store chains, restaurants, churches, and service organizations; and

WHEREAS, by working to address food insecurity in the community and to ensure that no individual or family goes without, the Community of Faith Food Pantry has made a profound impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Community of Faith Food Pantry hereby be commended for its legacy of service on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Community of Faith Food Pantry as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
