Celebrating the life of Henry Mills Harris.

WHEREAS, Henry Mills Harris, a humble servant of God, a dedicated family man, and lifelong Virginian died on May 16, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris was born in Richmond, raised in Louisa County, and graduated from University of Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris was a proud patriot who loved his country and served in the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris made his career as a contractor who built many timeless and beautiful homes where generations of families made countless memories; he raised his own family in the Village of Midlothian in Chesterfield County; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris was a devout Christian and a founding member of Huguenot United Methodist Church, where he held several leadership roles; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris was a loyal community member with a servant's heart who volunteered with several organizations, from the Rotary Club to Meals on Wheels; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris was a diehard fan of the University of Richmond basketball team, who never missed a game if he could help it and could often be found cheering for the Richmond Spiders in the Robbins Center or from the comfort of his home; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris spent ample time with both his friends and family on the golf course at Salisbury Country Club, where he was also a regular early bird at the gym, enjoyed playing bridge, and built a sense of camaraderie with both members and club staff; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris was a loving and devoted husband of nearly 67 years to his wife, Peggy Duke Harris; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris was an exceptional and supportive father and father-in-law to his son Hank (Desiree), and his daughter Mary (Walt), as well as a fun-loving and cherished grandfather to his granddaughter and three grandsons, an adoring great-grandfather to two great-grandsons, and a dependable and loyal friend to many; and
WHEREAS, Henry Harris is thought about and deeply missed by his family every day and is fondly remembered by those who knew him as a gentle soul who spoke with respect and kindness about others, who held immense patience, who loved God and his country, who cared endlessly about his family, and who so often put others above himself, asking for very little and giving of everything; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Henry Mills Harris, a respected member of the Chesterfield County community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Henry Mills Harris as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
