Celebrating the life of Henry Conrad Warlick, Ed.D.

WHEREAS, Henry Conrad Warlick, Ed.D., an honorable veteran, accomplished education administrator, and an active and beloved member of the Fredericksburg community, died on July 3, 2024; and

WHEREAS, a native of North Carolina, Conrad Warlick earned a bachelor's degree from Wake Forest College, now known as Wake Forest University, in 1951, a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1953, and a doctor of education degree from the University of Virginia in 1971; and

WHEREAS, Conrad Warlick served his country with honor and distinction from 1953 to 1957 as an officer in the United States Navy and as chief of operations on the USS Pictor while it was stationed in the Pacific; and

WHEREAS, Conrad Warlick taught at Wake Forest College from 1957 to 1960 and then at the University of Virginia while he was pursing his doctoral degree, where he ultimately served as associate dean of undergraduate admissions; and

WHEREAS, Conrad Warlick joined the administration at what is today the University of Mary Washington in 1974 as its vice president for admissions and financial aid and assisted the institution in various leadership capacities, including as executive assistant to the president and senior vice president, until his retirement in 1997; and

WHEREAS, Conrad Warlick supported higher education through his membership in a number of state, regional, and national college admissions organizations, including the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling, where he served as president and which presented him its Apperson Award for outstanding service; and

WHEREAS, Conrad Warlick fostered the growth and development of Fredericksburg as a member of the board of directors of the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce and the Industrial Development Authority for the City of Fredericksburg, where he served as secretary and then chair; and

WHEREAS, Conrad Warlick gave generously of his time for the benefit of the community through his involvement with The Salvation Army, the University of Mary Washington Foundation, the United Way, and his local chapter of Kiwanis International, where he served as president; and

WHEREAS, Conrad Warlick promoted education, arts, and culture initiatives in Fredericksburg by serving on the founding boards for the Fredericksburg Academy and the Fredericksburg Festival of the Arts and as a board member and chair of the Friends of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the University of Mary Washington; and

WHEREAS, guided throughout his life by his faith, Conrad Warlick enjoyed worship and fellowship with his community at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg; and

WHEREAS, Conrad Warlick will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his wife, Anne; his children, John and James, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Henry Conrad Warlick, Ed.D., a cherished member of the Fredericksburg community whose dedication and service touched countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Henry Conrad Warlick, Ed.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
