WHEREAS, John J. Accordino, Ph.D., who has served as a professor of planning at Virginia Commonwealth University for 27 years, was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2014; and WHEREAS, the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is the nation's leading institute for the education and certification of professional planners; it provides leadership in the areas of ethics, professional development, and standards of practice in city planning; and WHEREAS, Dr. Accordino was named a Fellow of the AICP for his contributions to the planning field and exceptional achievements in professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, public and community service, and leadership; and WHEREAS, Dr. Accordino has improved the practice of planning through innovative teaching and mentorship of students, focusing on community-based learning and innovations in the planning curriculum; and WHEREAS, Dr. Accordino has provided leadership in the planning profession throughout the Richmond regional community and at Virginia Commonwealth University; and WHEREAS, Dr. Accordino's scholarship has broken new ground on important planning issues and has empowered communities through direct policy applications; and WHEREAS, students, alumni, planning practitioners, and fellow professors alike admire Dr. Accordino's passion and commitment to revitalizing mature communities and neighborhoods through thoughtful planning; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend John J. Accordino, Ph.D., on his selection as a Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2014; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John J. Accordino, Ph.D., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his many contributions to the Richmond community and leadership in the planning field. |
