WHEREAS, Anthony L. Taylor, pastor of the United House of Prayer for All People and beloved community leader in the Church Hill area of Richmond, died on March 24, 2010; and WHEREAS, as a young boy residing in North Carolina, Anthony Taylor was called to preach the gospel, a call that marked the direction of his life; a few years later, he had the opportunity to attend McCollough Seminary in Richmond; and WHEREAS, in 1992, Bishop and CEO S.C. Madison of the United House of Prayer for All People appointed him as pastor of the United House of Prayer for All People in Church Hill, and in 1995, Anthony Taylor was humbled and blessed to be elevated from Saint Elder to Apostle; and WHEREAS, Apostle Anthony Taylor, inspired and led by the Spirit, strove to implement programs that would help the members of his congregation and local community learn valuable skills for the marketplace, build strong relationships, and enhance their spiritual lives; and WHEREAS, a community computer lab, community clothing closet, emergency food bank, Christmas toy drive, community marching band, transportation ministry, and afterschool program are all the results of Apostle Anthony Taylor's visionary leadership; and WHEREAS, Apostle Anthony Taylor's influence extended beyond his church and immediate community as he served on several boards in the City of Richmond, including the local minister's association, and worked closely with the City of Richmond's Community Development Department; and WHEREAS, Apostle Anthony Taylor saw the membership of his church grow exponentially in numbers and faith over the years as it drew from the ranks of the newly empowered community members; and WHEREAS, Apostle Anthony Taylor received numerous awards and accolades for his selfless work, including a letter of recognition from Governor George Allen and Congressman Bobby Scott in addition to receipt of the Empowered and Prestigious Pastor Award from Sister Care International; and WHEREAS, driven by a humble desire to serve his Lord and fellow neighbors, Apostle Anthony Taylor's passionate devotion lifted the spirits of his congregation and community; though he is no longer with them in body, his example and spirit live on in the lives of those he touched who carry on his work; and WHEREAS, preceded in death by his loving mother, Annie Taylor, Apostle Anthony Taylor will be greatly missed by his aunt, Frances; sisters, Veronica and Christine, and their wonderful families; and his United House of Prayer family; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a beloved pastor and community leader, Anthony L. Taylor; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Anthony L. Taylor as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
