SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 286 Commending the Lake Taylor High School football team. Agreed to by the Senate, January 17, 2013 Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 25, 2013

WHEREAS, on December 8, 2012, the Lake Taylor High School football team earned the school's first football state championship by winning the Virginia High School League Group AAA, Division 5 state championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lake Taylor Titans capped off an undefeated regular season with a dominant run in the playoffs, beating Phoebus High School in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Eastern District final and North Stafford High School in the VHSL Group AAA, Division 5 semifinal; and

WHEREAS, the Lake Taylor Titans secured the state final with a dramatic 20�14 win against Stone Bridge High School to finish the season with a perfect 15�0 record; and

WHEREAS, the Lake Taylor Titans also distinguished themselves as the first Norfolk public school team to win a state football title since 1966; and

WHEREAS, the Lake Taylor Titans' victory propelled them into several national rankings, moving them into the top 100 in a poll by Rivals and the top 50 in a poll by USA Today; and

WHEREAS, throughout the season, the players on the Lake Taylor High School football team built a reputation for tough, physical play on both sides of the ball; and

WHEREAS, the championship win is a tribute to the support shown by the community and the students, teachers, and administration of Lake Taylor High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Lake Taylor High School football team on winning the Virginia High School League Group AAA, Division 5 state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Hank Sawyer, head coach of the Lake Taylor High School football team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's historic success.
