WHEREAS, LEAD VIRGINIA was established in 2005 by leaders from across the Commonwealth who recognized a need for a nonpartisan, nonprofit statewide leadership development program; and WHEREAS, each year, LEAD VIRGINIA calls together 50 leaders from private, public, and nonprofit organizations and educates those leaders on Virginia's statewide and regional issues and leadership challenges; and WHEREAS, LEAD VIRGINIA's curriculum focuses on specific economic, educational, and health issues; the organization builds social capital among leaders through the shared experience of seven intensive monthly sessions held across the Commonwealth; and WHEREAS, LEAD VIRGINIA provides leaders with the opportunity to experience firsthand the rich diversity and resources of the Commonwealth, while exploring and collaborating on solutions to Virginia's statewide challenges that respect regional differences; and WHEREAS, LEAD VIRGINIA will reach a milestone of 500 alumni in 2015; alumni have served in positions of leadership locally, regionally, and statewide, including on numerous state boards and commissions; and WHEREAS, LEAD VIRGINIA graduates influence policy, perspective, and innovation at all levels in their public and private sector roles; and WHEREAS, LEAD VIRGINIA has created an invaluable legacy of leadership for Virginia during its first decade, with alumni working diligently to shape and strengthen the future of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend LEAD VIRGINIA on the occasion of its 10th anniversary; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to LEAD VIRGINIA as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its work to empower and support strong, well-informed leaders throughout the Commonwealth. |
