SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 228 Commending the service of Louisa County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit Bloodhound Maggie.   Agreed to by the Senate, March 8, 2012 Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 9, 2012  

WHEREAS, K-9 Maggie, a black and tan bloodhound whose American Kennel Club name was Magpie Electric Potential, was born on October 14, 2005, at Magpie Kennels in Milford, New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, K-9 Maggie was placed with Lieutenant Patrick Sheridan of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office when she was 13 weeks old; and

WHEREAS, a skilled handler, Lieutenant Sheridan spent many hours training and working with K-9 Maggie over the years, and the two formed a close bond; and

WHEREAS, an exceptionally eager and loyal member of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, K-9 Maggie solved her first case when she was just nine months old; and

WHEREAS, K-9 Maggie was a valuable member of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office whose career included finding 153 marijuana plants, locating missing persons, working criminal cases, and responding to over 350 calls for service; and

WHEREAS, popular among local schoolchildren, K-9 Maggie visited every school in Louisa County and allowed students to pet her after police demonstrations; and

WHEREAS, K-9 Maggie, a six-year veteran of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, died on December 12, 2011, from injuries sustained in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, an extremely valuable part of the Louisa County law-enforcement community, K-9 Maggie will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her handler, Lieutenant Patrick Sheridan, the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, fellow K-9 Unit Bloodhound Shaker, and members of the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Louisa County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit Bloodhound Maggie on her service to the community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Louisa County Sheriff's Office as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and appreciation for her valiant service.
