SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 225
Celebrating the life of Major Michael Donahue, USA.

WHEREAS, Major Michael Donahue, USA, a former faculty member at Liberty University and a courageous soldier, was killed in action on September 16, 2014, in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, a native of Ohio, Michael Donahue became a paratrooper in the United States Army; he rose to the rank of major and served three tours of duty in South Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, from 2008 to 2010, Major Donahue served as an assistant professor in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps at Liberty University, where he had earned his master's degree and was pursuing a doctorate; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic and deeply respected educator, Major Donahue inspired countless students to achieve greatness through his positivity, devotion, and compassion; and

WHEREAS, Major Donahue earned many awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal; and

WHEREAS, Major Donahue made the ultimate sacrifice while serving with the XVIII Airborne Corps at a special operations base near Kabul, Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, Major Donahue's sacrifice is a reminder of the many dangers faced by American men and women in uniform, whose dedication to duty and country places them in harm's way throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, Major Donahue will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Sherri; children, Victoria, Seamus, and Bailey; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Major Michael Donahue, USA, a dedicated educator and a respected member of the United States military; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Major Michael Donahue, USA, as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
