WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Douglas Kittredge, pastor of New Life in Christ Church of Fredericksburg and a beloved member of the Fredericksburg community, died on February 10, 2024; and
WHEREAS, Douglas "Doug" Kittredge was inspired to commit his life to the ministry as a teenager after meeting the evangelist Billy Graham and hearing him address the Harvard Law School Forum; and
WHEREAS, with his wife, Mary Jane, Doug Kittredge settled in Fredericksburg in 1975 to found a new evangelical church, later called New Life in Christ Church, where he worked tirelessly over many years to provide his congregation with insightful spiritual guidance and abundant opportunities for worship, fellowship, and community outreach; and
WHEREAS, Doug Kittredge contributed to the launch of many Christian ministries in the local Fredericksburg area, including Fredericksburg Christian School, the Fredericksburg branch of Bethany Christian Services adoption agency, the "90 Joy" Christian radio station, and an extension campus of New Geneva Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, motivated by his deep and abiding faith, Doug Kittredge dedicated himself to supporting both new and existing churches in Fredericksburg and around the world, including congregations in Israel through New Life in Christ Church's Jerusalem Gateway Partnership; and
WHEREAS, with great love and compassion, Doug Kittredge spearheaded interfaith efforts in the community, including the Meetings for Better Understanding held in coordination with the Manassas Mosque in the aftermath of 9/11; and
WHEREAS, Doug Kittredge's book, Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem, reveals his decades-long passion for advancing true spiritual reconciliation in the Middle East through the Gospel of Christ; and
WHEREAS, in all his endeavors, Doug Kittredge was unwavering in his devotion to loving his family, leading his church, and sharing his faith globally; and
WHEREAS, Doug Kittredge will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Jane; his children, Douglas, Rachel, Andrew, and Naomi, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of the Reverend Dr. Douglas Kittredge, a cherished member of the Fredericksburg community whose leadership and faith inspired all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of the Reverend Dr. Douglas Kittredge as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
