SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 163
Commending Clyde W. Bowling.

WHEREAS, Clyde W. Bowling has spent his life in service to others; his contributions to Southwest Virginia in general and to Tazewell County in particular are far too many to be listed in their entirety, and the number of good deeds he has accomplished in his lifetime far exceeds the 100 years he has lived; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Bowling, who was born on February 26, 1912, in Indian Creek, has devoted 10 decades to helping his friends and neighbors; his record of service is vast, and his community and church involvement is all-embracing; and

WHEREAS, by devoting his life to his community and to the welfare of those who live in Virginia's beautiful southwestern corner, Clyde Bowling has helped bring about many civic and transportation improvements; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Bowling, who is a lifelong resident of Tazewell County, served as Treasurer of Bluefield, was a member of the county Soil and Water Conservation District for more than 20 years, served on the New River-Highlands Resource Conservation and Development Council, and played a key role in flood control projects; and

WHEREAS, his determination to secure safe roads and bridges led to many years of service on the Tazewell County Transportation Safety Commission; to honor his unswerving commitment to the safety of the driving public, the new State Route 102 bridge was designated the Clyde Bowling Bridge; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his work in the community, Clyde Bowling is a man of faith; he has been a Sunday School teacher and has been an active volunteer in many fraternal and charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Bowling served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II and was in the Civilian Conservation Corps; he is a Mason, a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9696, and a member of the American Legion; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Clyde W. Bowling, a proud and esteemed citizen of Tazewell County, on the occasion of his 100th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Clyde W. Bowling as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation, congratulations, and best wishes.
