SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 159
Celebrating the life of George Declan O'Reilly.

WHEREAS, George Declan O'Reilly, an honorable veteran, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, and treasured member of the Fredericksburg community, died on March 27, 2023; and

WHEREAS, George O'Reilly graduated with honors from Mountain View High School (MVHS) in 2018 and, in 2022, earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from James Madison University (JMU), where he was a member of the school's United States Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps; and

WHEREAS, George O'Reilly served his country with honor and distinction as second lieutenant of the battalion maintenance officer and maintenance platoon leader for Echo Forward Support Company of the 40th Brigade Engineer Battalion in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas; and

WHEREAS, George O'Reilly excelled at both athletics and music, swimming for four years on the MVHS varsity swim team and later on the JMU club swim team, while playing trumpet for nearly a decade and competing with the MVHS marching band; and

WHEREAS, George O'Reilly would never hesitate to go out of his way to help someone in need and was admired by all who knew him for his thoughtfulness, strength, dedication, and kindness; and

WHEREAS, George O'Reilly had a passion for weightlifting, running, and video games, but most of all enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, George O'Reilly will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his parents, Shawn and Jessica; his siblings, Flora, Gina, Macy, John, and Henry; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of George Declan O'Reilly, a cherished member of the Fredericksburg community whose light brightened countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of George Declan O'Reilly as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
