WHEREAS, George G. King of Montross, a respected citizen and outstanding community supporter, died on September 23, 2009; and WHEREAS, George G. "Sonny" King born on November 22, 1932, was the brother to eight siblings, spent most of his life in his beloved Westmoreland County, and honorably served his country in the Korean War; and WHEREAS, Sonny King was active in town affairs and was committed to improving the quality of life of all of his fellow residents, including improving the local water department and water system; and WHEREAS, during civic activities and holidays in Montross, Sonny King volunteered his time and expertise and worked especially hard preparing for the town's Christmas lighting; and WHEREAS, Sonny King was a member of the Westmoreland County Fire Department, and he served as a Grand Marshall of the Montross Fall Festival; and WHEREAS, Sonny King was a faithful member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church and was active in the church's many missions in the community; and WHEREAS, always ready to help his neighbors in need, Sonny King will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous nature and his optimistic view of life; and WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Sonny King will be greatly missed by his wife Pauline Kay King; two sons, George Michael King and his wife, Laura "K.K.", Joseph Paul King and his wife, Sherry; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous other loving family members and friends; and the citizens of the Town of Montross; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, George G. King; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of George G. King as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
