SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 113
Commending Elmer Rudolph Morris, Jr.

WHEREAS, Elmer Rudolph Morris, Jr., was born on February 12, 1924, at home at Edge Hill in King George County; and

WHEREAS, Elmer "Juney" Morris graduated from King George High School in 1941 and attended The College of William and Mary in Virginia for a year and a half until the beginning of World War II; and

WHEREAS, Juney Morris enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the medical corps as a pharmacist mate, beginning his service in Newport, Rhode Island; and

WHEREAS, Juney Morris bravely served aboard the destroyer DD-630, the USS Braine, as part of the Little Beaver Squadron in the South Pacific; and

WHEREAS, during his service on the USS Braine, Juney Morris was wounded during kamikaze attacks on May 27, 1945, east of Okinawa; he earned a Purple Heart and later received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his service; and

WHEREAS, Juney Morris returned to King George County after the war and completed his business degree on the GI Bill at what is now the University of Mary Washington, where he met his wife, Marceline "Marcy" Weatherly Morris; and

WHEREAS, Juney Morris taught seventh grade for a year, served on the King George County School Board for 20 years, and was a founding member of King George State Bank in 1974 through its merger with Union Bank & Trust in 1999, chairing its board of directors for 24 years; and

WHEREAS, in addition, Juney Morris served the community as the owner of Morris Chevrolet for 47 years; and

WHEREAS, Juney Morris has enjoyed the love and support of his beloved wife, Marcy, for 73 years, as well as the love and support of their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Elmer Rudolph Morris, Jr., on the occasion of his 100th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Elmer Rudolph Morris, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his achievements in service to King George County, the Commonwealth, and the United States of America.
